Laundry

6 Jan

I would never seek to glorify hand-washing, but there really is something to be said about the time and repetition and movement that goes into turning these dirty, two-weeks-worth-of-filth garments into slightly-less-dirty and relatively fresh smelling attire.

Despite moaning about aching hands afterwards, I really am glad for dirty laundry. Unlike many of our afternoons, it provides me with a full half hour of uninterrupted, focused and free work spent with my favorite partner.  Though our dates have changed from a relaxing dinner and drinks and a movie to scrubbing and hanging and creating something passable from scratch to eat, I wouldn’t give up these days for anything.  When we blast the radio in our bath house and chat and sing… I tell you, it’s pretty great.

Beautiful that war and all its deeds of carnage, must in time be utterly lost;
That the hands of the sisters Death and Night incessantly softly wash again and ever again, this soiled world. – Walt Whitman
